How to Prevent Mold in Your Bathroom
Updated: Apr 19, 2023
Mold in your bathroom does not only cause structural damage to your home, but can also harm your health! The best way to avoid a mold invasion, is to prevent the growth of mold from the get-go. Here are 6 ways to prevent mold in your bathroom.
SQUEEGEE AFTER SHOWERING
Keeping the moisture down in your bathroom is key to preventing mold growth.
A squeegee can help get rid of a large portion of the moisture accumulated on the walls of your bathroom after a shower or bath.
INSTALL A BATH FAN
Make sure you have a bath fan and are running it during your showers and baths.
You want to pay special attention to the make and model of your fan.
Make sure you have a fan that fits the size and capacity needs of your bathroom so that it is moving enough air to get rid of the moisture.
Also double check that the fan is venting from your bathroom properly.
SEAL TILE GROUT
If you have tile in your bathroom, it is important to seal the grout lines with a waterproof sealant every year to prevent moisture from accumulating in them and causing mold.
CAULK CRACKS AROUND TUB AND SINK Mold often takes hold when water leaks through the cracks in-between your sink, bathtub/shower and the walls.
To prevent this from happening, inspect the caulking around your sink, bathtub and shower.
If you see cracks in the caulking, repair it immediately.
CLEAN WITH PRODUCTS KNOWN TO KILL MOLD When doing your usual bathroom cleaning, use a cleaner known to kill mold such as hydrogen peroxide, white vinegar, borax, baking soda or bleach.
Let your cleaners sit on your bathroom surfaces for 10 minutes before rinsing them.
USE A PROTECTANT AFTER CLEANING Apply a surface protectant such as EV360™ Antimicrobial Protectant.
Even after deep cleaning your bathroom, your favorite disinfecting products do nothing to prevent mold from invading in-between cleanings.
EV360™ Antimicrobial Surface Protectant provides complete, lasting protection against mold and mildew.
When applied to surfaces, millions of microscopic spikes are bound to the surface and physically destroy mold and mildew before they can take hold.
The protection is not only harmless to the human touch, it lasts for up to 90-days.
