10 Things You Forget to Clean
Updated: Sep 29, 2021
It's easy to get into a cleaning routine with all the usual places, but there may be grimy places in your home that you are neglecting. Here are 10 places or things that you may be overlooking during your normal cleaning routine.
Refrigerator
Un-kept refrigerators can become susceptible to cross-contamination and put the health of you and your family at risk.
First unplug your fridge and take everything out, then wipe it down thoroughly with your favorite cleaner.
Pillows Pillow cases usually get washed frequently but pillows also need washed because particles can pass through pillowcases.
Follow the instructions for cleaning listed on the tag of your pillow.
Windowsills
Windowsills collect a lot of dust and bugs but often go unnoticed during your usual cleaning routine.
Start by dusting them off and then follow up by wiping them down with your favorite cleaner.
Kitchen Drawers
Kitchen drawers accumulate a surprising amount of debris from everyday life in the kitchen.
To clean, empty the drawer and vacuum out the debris. Finish cleaning by wiping them down with a wash cloth and cleaner.
Shower Curtain and Head
Dangerous microbes can accumulate on your shower head and curtain. They can even have negative impacts on your health.
Most shower curtains can be placed directly in the washing machine.
Clean your shower head by securing a plastic bag with 1 part vinegar and 1 part water over the shower head with a rubber band. Leave the bag overnight and remove it in the morning.
Garbage Bins
Garbage bins are notoriously dirty.
After garbage day, rinse out your empty trash bin with a hose.
Keyboards
Keyboards are constantly in contact with your hands and all of the microbes on them.
Shake the keyboard upside-down to remove debris and then wipe the keyboard down with a damp cloth.
Reusable bags These bags get toted everywhere from the grocery store to the beach, giving them plenty of time to pick up germs along the way.
Follow the cleaning instructions listed on the tag of your bag.
Pet Bowls
These slobbery dishes often get overlooked when doing your own dishes.
Throw them in the dishwasher or hand wash them as you do your own dishes.
Ceiling Fan Blades
If you can’t remember the last time you cleaned your ceiling fan blades, it’s been too long. You’ll be surprised by how much dust they accumulate.
Use your favorite duster to clean them.
